Juliet Ehimuan Chiazor, Country Manager for Google Nigeria has won the 2012 IT Personality of the Year Award. She emerged as the winner of the IT community’s most prestigious award at the annual National Information Technology Merit Awards (NITMA) held by the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) on December 14, 2012 at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island in Lagos. Jidaw notes that her announcement as the winner was the highpoint of the evening for most of the audience at the event.
The “IT Personality of the Year” award celebrates those who have been outstanding through their work in IT during the year. Before the winner emerged, all nominees were recognized during the NITMA event for their outstanding IT contributions in industry and society. In the opinion of Jidaw all nominees are in fact winners considering their incredible achievements during the year. Finalists of such a high profile award are winners.

* Mr. Hassan U. Alao, Managing Director Sidmach Technologies Nigeria Limited, is an Electronics Engineer by training and has a career experience of over 25 years in ICT. Sidmach pioneered the implementation of e-Registration service for examination bodies
* Mr. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi (CON), Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria is an accomplished banker that has been Group Managing Director/Chief Executive officer of First Bank Plc, the largest bank in the country. His leadership at CBN has witnessed the most significant deployment of and leverage on IT to improve the nation’s banking and finance system.
Also known as the President’s award, all finalists met the award criteria set by NCS which included outstanding contributions to the fast-changing world of information technology. Jidaw observes that this year’s nominees were chosen not only for their personal efforts but also the tremendous impact their organizations have made in industry and society through IT under their leadership. They are truly Innovation champions.
Jidaw is of the opinion that the awards are well deserved considering how hard and creatively the nominees have worked to employ technology in driving positive change. We must appreciate technology driven individuals and organizations that foster sustainable, inclusive national development and overall prosperity to encourage such efforts and inspire others.

NCS members voted through the NCS e-voting platform. Accenture, known for its world class auditing services, confirmed the integrity of the entire voting process.

Juliet Ehimuan Chiazor leader of the Google team in Nigeria has not only piloted Google strategy and expansion in Nigeria, but has also led Google in making significant impact in local content development, and technology incubation. With outstanding, top level experience at Chams, Shell and Microsoft as well as being holder of a Bachelors Degree (1st Class Honours) in Computer Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and recipient of several international awards, she is an undeniable pacesetter.
It is essential in this regard to acknowledge her active contribution to developing national strategies for the acceleration of inclusive broadband growth. Jidaw joins NCS in congratulating Juliet Ehimuan Chiazor. You have done extremely well. Your performance has been excellent. But please don’t rest on your oars. This award should provoke you to do even more. You and Google can still do much more to create a better future in Nigeria through Information technology. Your best is yet to come.
