Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) Niger State Chapter has visited vice-chancellors of universities in the state to create awareness about NCS and make progress in its advocacy efforts in higher institutions.
Visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna
The Nigeria Computer Society, Niger Chapter visited the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji on Thursday May 30, 2013. In his speech, the Niger State Chapter Chairman of Nigeria Computer Society, Zubayr Emimaru said they were in the office of the V-C to congratulate him on his recent appointment as the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna and to seek his support for the Society in her effort to uplift the standard of Information Technology in Niger State and the country in general. He implored the V-C to encourage Information Technology professionals in his domain to join the society so as to improve their lots and afford them opportunities to make meaningful contributions to the teaching of Information Technology Science and its practice in Nigeria.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor welcomed the state executive members of the Society to his office. According to him since the University has a whole school of ICT comprising five departments namely: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Communication Engineering, Information and Media Technology and Cyber Security Science, the institution had no option than to work with the Nigeria Computer Society and all relevant regulatory bodies for the achievement of the set objectives of the School. He then pledged his support and cooperation for the success of the association in the state.
In his remark, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, Engr. Abubakar Salisu who was also a member of the state executives assured the V-C of the Niger State Government readiness to partner with the institution especially that work was in progress on ICT Policy formulation for the state. Therefore, both the state and the University have a lot to do together, he added.
Visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai
The Nigeria Computer Society, Niger Chapter visited the Vice-Chancellor, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Prof. Ibrahim Adamu Kolo on Monday June 10, 2013. The Niger State Chapter Chairman of Nigeria Computer Society, Zubayr Emimaru informed the Vice-Chancellor that they were in the V-C’s office to appreciate him for honouring their invitation to the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected executive members of the Chapter that took place on Tuesday April 30, 2013 and to seek his support and cooperation. He further called on the V-C to encourage staff in his domain to join the association for the benefit of the institution, state and the country in general. According to him, the Nigeria Computer Society is an umbrella organization for all Information Technology stakeholders and a platform for the teaching and practice of Information Technology in Nigeria.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor welcomed the Niger Chapter executive members of the Nigeria Computer Society and expressed his delight over the presence of the State Chapter. He advised the Chapter to set sub-chapters at lower levels to ease coordination of the State Chapter’s activities. He also encouraged the Chapter to come up with programmes that have direct bearing on the yearnings of the state and assured the chapter of the institutions support any time they receive invitation to key into such programmes of the association. The VC prayed for the success of the association as the state joins the world in her efforts to ensure ICT driven state economy aimed towards achieving Mr. Chief Servant’s vision 3:2020.
