NCS Lagos Chapter 2012 IT Conference and Awards

Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) Lagos State Chapter has announced details of its upcoming 2012 IT Conference and Awards. The event will hold on Wednesday, 10th October, 2012 at the Ikeja Airport Hotel, Awolowo Way, Ikeja. Time is 10 a.m.


According to the release, the NCS Lagos Golden Names 2012 will honour and celebrate Chief Olaide Ayodele (Founder, Labyet Polaris), Chief J. Bankole (Vice Chairman, JKK) and Mrs. Ibukun. Odusote (Permanent Secretary, Tourism, Culture and National Orientation) for their outstanding contributions to IT development in Nigeria.

In addition to Golden Names 2012, the NCS Lagos IT Conference and awards will include the annual Don Etiebet Innovative Prize and the Sidmach Prize. Don Etiebet prize sponsored by Chief Don Etiebet, former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Fellow of the Nigeria Computer Society and former President of the Computer Association of Nigeria (COAN) which later became NCS, seeks to reward excellence in IT innovation. Sidmach Technologies, a strong supporter of NCS Lagos activities is the sponsor of the Sidmach Prize. Sidmach, a Microsoft Gold Partner, is an IT firm that provides digital and online solutions for public examination bodies such as the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

Theme of the event is: Biodata Database Infrastructure as Strategic Security Tools. As the theme suggests, it expected that speakers and discussants will address of deploying IT to fight crime and provide security in facets of life. For how long will be keep fighting crime with yesterday’s tools? Do security agencies have access to the required technology infrastructure? Are they trained and equipped with the knowledge and skills to use IT to tackle security threats. Buying CCTVs won’t be enough. How do we ensure there won’t be wastage and duplication of resources? Technology is one thing, but there must also be inclusive, multistakeholder participation. What strategies and plans are in place to ensure technology driven security projects deliver and meet our goals? The event will focus on the utilization of biodata database for this purpose.

Special Guest of Honour is Hon. Adebiyi Fatai Mabadeje, Lagos State Commissioner of Science and Technology, while the Guest of Honour, Hon. Wahab Alawiye King, Lagos State House of Assembly Chairman, Education, Science and Technology. Chairman of the event is Ernest Aghanenu, Chairman of Innovative Systems Limited, Fellow of the Nigeria Computer Society (FNCS) and Member Computer Professionals Council of Nigeria (MCPN).
