Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Conferences Committee Chairman, Professor Adesola Aderounmu on Thursday, March 7, 2013 inaugurated the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 2013 NCS International Conference holding in Osun state. The committee is expected to drive planning of the event. The inauguration took place at the College of Science, Engineering and Technology, Osun state University main campus.
Members of the Local Organising Committee include Dr. James Oladiipo Folorunso, Director of ICT for Osun state College of Education Ilesa, who is also Chairman of the NCS Osun state Chapter and Alhaja Peju Adigun of the Osun State University, Vice Chairman, NCS Osun State Chapter.
It is a first for the state of Osun. It’s no wonder the LOC expressed both excitement and readiness to handle the event. It is usually a privilege for a state to be given this hosting assignment which is both a national task and honour. The state and the LOC are therefore expected to fully utilize this opportunity to set new standards for the conference.
Since Governor, State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola accepted to host the conference during the 2012 National Information Technology Merit Award (NITMA) enthusiasm has been high in the state of Osun. At the ceremony, he confirmed Osun state’s readiness and acceptance to host the NCS Conference stating that: “The government and wonderful people of Osun State looks forward to hosting NCS members and other delegates/resource persons to the 2013 NCS International Conference and AGM in Oshogbo”.
The State of Osun, also known as Ipinle Omoluabi,“Land of Virtue” promises to be an excellent host. The state was carefully selected because of the Governor’s commitment as well as the capacity of IT professionals and stakeholders in the state to deliver and even surpass the achievements of previous conferences. Last year’s conference held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State was particularly fruitful and outstanding.
Expectation is high. The conference is the largest annual gathering of IT professional and stakeholders in Nigeria. Participants are expected from all over the country and from all over the world. Organizing such a high visibility and intense event will obviously be tasking and full of activity. The LOC has promised to involve all key stakeholders in the state to ensure that the hosting of the event which is NCS’s 11th International Conference will be successful. Holding from Wednesday 24 to Friday 26, July 2013 in Osogbo, the State of Osun, Nigeria, the conference theme is: “e-Government and National Security”.
Present at the LOC inauguration were NCS Executive Secretary, Chinedu Onouha, NCS Director of Corporate services, Iyiola Ayoola and NCS Chairman, Publicity, Events and Trade Services Committee, Jide Awe.
The 11th International conference promises to be one of the biggest in recent times. The 2013 Osun Conference LOC assures NCS members and all prospective attendees that the event will be safe, well organized and memorable. LOC aims to ensure organization and arrangements are of international standard. The LOC intends to make NCS and the nation proud. It will not rest on its oars in achieving success given the calibre and commitment of persons in the committee.
On inauguration completion, LOC members and the national NCS team paid a visit to Professor A.W. Gbolagade, Provost, College of Science, Engineering and Technology, Osun State University. While receiving the stakeholders warmly, he stated that NCS and the LOC have his support as well as that of the college and university.
