IT innovation will take centre stage at the 26th National Conference of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) holding from July 19 to 21, 2016 at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja. Nigeria’s largest annual IT conference holding under the theme, “Information Technology for National Safety and Security” will move the innovation agenda forward throughout the event.
First and foremost as the theme implies is the emphasis on innovation in national safety and security. NCS acknowledges security as a priority of the Federal Government and salutes the successes recorded by the nation’s defence authorities. However, core to the #NCSAbuja2016 conference are key issues in the application of innovative IT tools and strategies for improved efficiency and performance in all aspects of national security (border security, military, Cybersecurity, policing, etc).
Furthermore, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), under the leadership of the Acting Director General, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, will host a plenary session, “The Role of ICT Innovation in Diversifying the Nigerian Economy” during the conference.
Attention will be on IT innovation and creativity, and the positioning of IT as a viable alternative to oil as the nation’s major revenue earner. NITDA will highlight measures, interventions and strategies put in place to facilitate IT enabled job and wealth creation.
The Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Platform (YIEP) will come on stream in line with the spirit of innovation. Focused on unleashing the ingenuity of our young population, NCS President, Professor Sola Aderounmu states that: “YIEP is indicative of NCS’s commitment to the future of the tech industry, the growth of an inclusive digital Nigeria and a commitment to the youth and future of Nigeria”. YIEP will feature information and experience sharing, mentoring and guidance amongst others. Already, InterYIT, the international association for Young IT Professionals has endorsed YIEP.
