Sensing the Future: From Common Sense to Intelligent Systems is the focus of Professor Oludele Awodele’s inaugural lecture taking place on February 1, 2018 at Babcock university in Ogun State of Nigeria. Jidaw notes the topic’s relevance as Prof Awodele is a professor of Computer Science and Artificial intelligence (AI) in this higher institution. For Jidaw, AI is disrupting and transforming society as we know it. The potential of AI and other intelligent systems is huge.
The inaugural lecture will cover AI and more as it will essentially be about what Prof Awodele has been up to in terms of academic/research activities, the significance of his work over the years as well as his future interests in the university system. Jidaw expects a broad audience that includes the university community and general public.
Professor Oludele Awodele certainly has a lot to share. Though inaugural lectures have a ceremonial air about them, they are also full of substance. For Jidaw, Prof Awodele‘s lecture will be particularly intriguing as AI has moved from the initial realm of Sci-Fi to become real through autonomous vehicles (cars and drones), robotics, bots (intelligent personal assistant services). And industry specific intelligent systems in manufacturing, transportation, security, health, finances are changing industries. In the view of Jidaw, the lecture is therefore a unique avenue to learn from this expert in teaching, research and innovation.
AI and intelligent systems will clearly change the way value is created in the economy and society. How has Prof Awodele made such an impact in this highly dynamic space? Jidaw is sure other lecturers and researchers, especially the young ones, can learn a lot from his experiences and ideas. What are the AI possibilities? Will robots really be taking over?
