2012 Innovation Prize for Africa

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the African Innovation Foundation (AIF) has launched the first 2012 Innovation Prize for Africa (IPA). This annual prize is designed to reward and encourage innovative achievements that contribute toward developing new products, increasing efficiency or saving cost in Africa.

Designed to foster growth and creativity, the IPA acknowledges and encourages efforts of innovators and entrepreneurs in Africa. Consumption of the latest imported technologies alone cannot take Africa to where it deserves to be. Poverty, illiteracy and hunger must be fought with local creative solutions. It has become clear to all that innovation and entrepreneurship must become central to Africa’s development agenda.

2011 World Telecommunications and Information Society Day (WTISD) Initiatives

Jidaw systems (Jidaw) an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) career and entrepreneurship development firm has participated in and organized several events this year in Nigeria to mark the 2011 World Telecommunications and Information Society Day (WTISD). The programs organized in conjunction with the African Information Security Association (AISA) are based on the original WTISD theme “Better Life and Security with ICTs for Children in rural communities” from the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

Young IT Entrepreneur program Command Day Secondary School Ikeja – On June 2, 2011, Jidaw Systems Limited (Jidaw) trained students of Command Day Secondary School, Ikeja, Lagos on Information Technology (IT) Entrepreneurship as part of its efforts to mark the 2011 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD). The whole world depends on IT. It affects the way we learn, work, relate and do business. Entrepreneurship in IT is what has led to most of today’s innovation.  Jidaw therefore provides such programs to get children, who are future leaders, exposed at an early age to IT entrepreneurship and related issues.

IT Entrepreneur program for Children

Jidaw Systems Limited has trained Grange School students at the First Ever Information Technology Entrepreneur program for Children. The unique event was  held recently in Lagos, Nigeria. It can be described as a massive disruption of status quo. During the month of October 2010, Jidaw Systems Limited (Mastercomputers) partnered with Grange school to successfully conduct IT entrepreneurship training for several students of Grange school. Another program will take place for Command Day Secondary School in June 2011.
