Jidaw 2012 Annual Software Development Capacity Building Initiative
Jidaw’s Annual Software development capacity building program which entails courses on Programming basics and Web Development Basics comes up again in July, August and September 2012. It was run in 2011 in the months of August, September and October. The Software development educational programs are created and run yearly to develop capacity in software development in Nigeria.
Jidaw started this initiative in line with critical plan actions and programmes in the ICT4D plan to promote capacity building in Software development. Capable Software developers are required by Nigeria’s Software Industry to produce software product and services that meet intentional standards, using global best practices
Software is at the heart of advancement and innovation in the IT enabled society and knowledge economy. It is in fact high on the global value chain and opens the door to significant leapfrog opportunities. Forward thinking nations do not ignore software. Software development helps to meet local needs, earn foreign exchange, create jobs locally and boost the economy. It is indeed an avenue for many, especially the young to go beyond consumption and participate more meaningfully in driving growth in the country.
Furthermore, at the communiqué released at the end of the 2011 Annual Information Technology Professionals’ Assembly of the Computer Professionals (Registration Council Of Nigeria), CPN states that “developing the necessary skills for producing human capital for the dynamic software industry must be a priority”. Software development is also a priority in Nigeria for leading professional and regulatory organizations including the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), the home of Nigeria’s IT community.
The need for capabilities to solve real-world software development problems and deliver fast, reliable applications is both real and massive.
Jidaw has created these software development educational programs with input from the software and certification industry in line with software knowledge and skills needs.
