National IT Competitions for Students

The 2011 editions of the Olatunji Odegbami National Information Technology Competition for Tertiary Institutions and National Information Technology Whiz Kids Competition are being organized by the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS).

NCS is calling on interested students and schools to participate in these competitions designed for exhibiting and rewarding excellence in Information Technology among secondary school and territory institutions students.

The NCS is generally recognized as the national platform for the advancement of Computer Science and Information Technology in Nigeria. According the announcement, the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) is the umbrella organization of all Information Technology Professionals, IT Practitioners, Interest Groups and Stakeholders including National Association of Computer Science Students in all tertiary institutions (NACOSS) in Nigeria.

Two Annual National IT Competitions for Students

NCS organizes these national IT competitions for young people in Nigeria on an annual basis. The National Information Technology Whiz Kids Competition is designed for Nigerian Secondary School students while the Olatunji Odegbami National Information Technology Competition is for interested students of Computer Science or Computer Engineering in all Nigerian tertiary institutions including Universities, Polytechnics and colleges of Education.

Chisom Okpala of Dority School, Aba emerged as the first winner of Annual Secondary School National Information Technology (IT) Competition organized by the Nigeria Computer Society. The final competition was held during the NCS Annual conference in Abuja in July 2009.


The Olatunji Odegbami National IT Competition for Tertiary Institutions is instituted in honour and memory of Chief Olatunji Odegbami the Fourth President of the Computer Association of Nigeria (COAN) and the Second President/Chairman of Council of the Computer Professionals (Registration Council of) Nigeria (CPN).

Designated zones for Whiz Kids zonal competitions are: South-East, South-South, South-West, North-West, North-East, North-Central, Special- Abuja and Special – Lagos
Interested secondary schools are expected to register ONE (1) contestant and students must qualify for zonal competitions.
