The 2012 editions of the Olatunji Odegbami National Information Technology Competition for Tertiary Institutions and National Information Technology Whiz Kids Competition are being organized by the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS).
NCS is again calling on interested students and schools to participate in these competitions designed for exhibiting and rewarding excellence in Information Technology among secondary school and territory institutions students.
The NCS is the national platform for the advancement of Computer Science and Information Technology in Nigeria. According the announcement, the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) is the umbrella organization of all Information Technology Professionals, IT Practitioners, Interest Groups and Stakeholders including National Association of Computer Science Students in all tertiary institutions (NACOSS) in Nigeria.
Two Annual National IT Competitions for Students
NCS organizes these national IT competitions for young people in Nigeria on an annual basis. The National Information Technology Whiz Kids Competition is designed for Nigerian Secondary School students while the Olatunji Odegbami National Information Technology Competition is for interested students of Computer Science or Computer Engineering in all Nigerian tertiary institutions including Universities, Polytechnics and colleges of Education. NCS organized the 2011 National IT Competition for Students throughout the country culminating in the award ceremony in Abuja.
Mubarak Idris – School for The Gifted, Abuja emerged as the 2011 winner of Annual Secondary School National Information Technology (IT) Whiz Kids Competition organized by the Nigeria Computer Society. The final competition was held during the NCS Annual conference in Abuja in July 2011.
The Olatunji Odegbami National IT Competition for Tertiary Institutions is instituted in honour and memory of Chief Olatunji Odegbami the Fourth President of the Computer Association of Nigeria (COAN) and the Second President/Chairman of Council of the Computer Professionals (Registration Council of) Nigeria (CPN).
Nasiru Muhammed Dankolo of Kano University of Science and Technology was the 2011 winner of the Olatunji Odegbami National Information Technology Competition for Tertiary Institutions

Designated zones for Whiz Kids zonal competitions are: South-East, South-South, South-West, North-West, North-East, North-Central and Special- Abuja.
Guidelines for participation 1. Interested secondary schools should obtain participation form for two (2) contestants (students) as follows:
Download Whiz Kids Competition Application Form OR obtain Form from State Coordinator, complete as appropriate and return to NCS Secretariat with evidence of payment of N1,000.00 participation fee (payment should be made into Nigeria Computer First Bank Account Number – 2001762424).
Application Deadline: June 20, 2012
Stage 1: State Competition at Designated State Centres – June 29, 2012
Stage 2: Zonal Competition at Designated Zonal Centres – July 11, 2012
Stage 3: Grand Finale in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State – July 25-27, 2012
Two zonal winners will be invited for the grand finale in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, venue of the 24th National Conference of Nigeria Computer Society from 25th to 27th July 2012
